Bede’s A Film For Every Year Of My Life – Part 2

If you remember last month here on the site, my friend/podcast co-host/head honcho of this site SuperMarcey decided that in the lead-up to her 30th birthday that she was going to do a three-part article series called A Film For Every Year Of My Life. In this series, she picked one film from every year over … Continue reading →

If you haven’t checked out the show already, please take my ramblings for a grain salt and experience it on your own terms. For those of you who have have seen it, sorry for making a salad of … Continue reading →

[Game Review] Batman: Arkham Origins [2013] by Bea Harper

Platforms: Wii-U, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, OS X After the enormous wrecking ball of “Arkham City” with dozens of untold stories, loose ends that required tying up, I was more curious about seeing a continuation. Rocksteady had really out-Batted itself when “City” swept up awards left and right, garnering massive praise for its gameplay, … Continue reading →

[Game Review] Batman: Arkham City [2011] by Bea Harper

Platforms: Wii-U, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC, OS X When it comes to video games, making a sequel for a best-seller can have just as much pressure and multiple ramifications as a film sequel does. Gamers want more of everything- they want to explore more worlds, undertake new missions, be exposed to numerous possibilities. “Arkham … Continue reading →

[Game Review] Batman: Arkham Asylum [2009] by Bea Harper

Platforms: Xbox 360, Playstation 3, PC and OS X “Batman Arkham Asylum” exceeded the expectations of many because of how much care was put into making this game, not just in terms of graphics (which in themselves are stunning), but in terms of creating a fantastic story and controls. I’m not what you would call … Continue reading →

[Bea’s Reviews] Masterpiece Theatre’s Dracula [2006]

Technically, Masterpiece Theatre’s Dracula (made exclusively to television by BBC in 2006) would have been a miserable failure- it’s too short, it glosses over several important factors and it’s quite an unusual piece to be released by the normally prestigious production company. However, what ultimately saves it (and us) is that it takes a deliberate step to … Continue reading →

[Bea’s Reviews] The Babadook [2014]

By the way, doesn’t a ‘Babadook’ sound like a very cute house pet you can keep in your room with his own toys and stuff? No?

Bede’s 2014 Halloween Viewing List Round-Up: The Top 5 Best & Worst

Well, Halloween has come and gone once again (well, technically it finished over a week ago). If you remember from my 2014 Halloween Viewing List: Sequels, Prequels and Docos! article that I wrote last month, I said I was going to spend the month of October watching horror sequels/prequels and horror-themed documentaries. Luckily I was able to watch … Continue reading →

[Bea’s Reviews] Dracula [1931 Spanish version]

Filmed simultaneously with Browning’s production during the nighttime hours, using the same story line, same sets, same schedule and same budget (more or less), George Melford’s Spanish reflection of Tod Browning’s film is a curio in early talkie cinema. Not to say Spanish ‘Dracula’ doesn’t have some nice things to offer because it does, more than … Continue reading →

[Bea’s Reviews] Dracula [1931]

Funny what time and emotional maturity does to you. When I first viewed Universal’s first of their many Golden Age releases, I honestly didn’t think much of it. Yes, I had heard this was not THE first Dracula adaptation (and neither wasNosferatu for that matter), but it was this film that embued pop culture for … Continue reading →

[Review] Interstellar (2014) by Bede Jermyn

I’m not going to lie: every time that a new Christopher Nolan film is released, it becomes like a huge major event for me. I’m an unabashed fan of him as a director and I pretty much-loved all the films that he has made so far (even his lesser works are still pretty damn great). … Continue reading →
