Well, it’s almost finally here once again. We’re just about to hit October, which means that one of my favourite times of year is upon us: the Halloween season. Just like Halloween last year, I’ll be spending the entire month at home since my city of Melbourne is currently in lockdown due rising cases of the Covid Delta variant. However though, it doesn’t worry me at all that I have to stay at home because at least that’ll give some extra time to watch a lot of horror in my spare time. Besides even if Melbourne wasn’t in a lockdown, I most likely still be doing that anyway regardless. Now if you have been following me over the pass few years here on the site, you know that I always do something a little different with my 31 Days Of Horror list when compared to everyone else’s. For those out there who don’t know, I’ll explain. While most horror fans usually watch at least one film per day for their 31 Days Of Horror viewing lists, I double the amount of films I’ll be watching by raising it to 62 instead. Yep, that is correct: 62 horror films. Which means I’ll be checking out two horror films every day throughout the month of October. Having done this theme at least eight times now in the pass 10 years (one year I had to change it up due to other commitments in 2014), I always love doing it because it gives me more a reason to check out a lot more variety of horror films, both old and new, that I still hadn’t seen yet. However when it comes to mine, I do have some rules that I follow in regards to which 62 horror films I put on my 31 Days Of Horror viewing list:
1: All the horror films have to be ones that I have never seen before.
2: 31 of the films have to be older ones made before the year 2010 while other 31 films must be more recent ones released after 2010.
3: Sequels are not allowed to be included, only stand alone films instead.
Those are the three rules that I’ve been going by over the pass couple years, which I feel definitely does makes things easier when it comes to putting together my list every year. This year’s one is another great mixture of many different types of horror films: vampires, zombies, giallos, supernatural, demon possession films, slashers, psychological, comedies, anthologies, monsters, sci-fi horror, serial killers, cults, silent horror, werewolves, animated films, Italian horror, witchcraft, found footage, folk horror etc.. However I will make some exceptions when it comes to certain days though. Other than the 62 horror films that I picked, I’ll also be adding a couple of bonus films on certain days of films making their official premieres on streaming services (since cinemas are shut down here in my city of Melbourne until November, this is how I will checking out any brand new ones that will be released throughout October).
Now the question remains: will I be able to watch them all? Even though the official 62 films I picked will be my main priority to watch during the month (the bonus films aren’t hugely essential since they’re there as more of a extra film to check out if I have the time) but that being said, I’m going to attempt to check out all of them. It will be challenge for sure but since I’ve somehow managed to successfully do it over the pass few years, I’m certain that this year will be no different. So without further ado, here’s my complete final viewing list of every horror film I’ll be seeing in October…
