Bede’s Top 10 Worst Films Of 2016

befunky-collage

Hey everyone! I’m really sorry that I didn’t post this list up much sooner. Originally I was going to have it written up and posted online before I headed out on my trip to Tasmania but I didn’t get the chance to finish it until now. So I apologise for its delay. If you remember over a week ago here on SuperMarcey.com, you might have my list that I wrote up of my top 10 films of 2016 (which you can read here). Also in that same article I promised that I would be posting another top 10 list soon, this time on the worst films that I saw in 2016. Just like what I did with my best of 2016 list, I held back on posting it because I needed extra time to catch up on some ‘bad’ films that I didn’t get a chance to check out from 2016. Why would I do that you ask? Just so I can see if any of them were *worthy* enough up to be on the list. Now here it is, the list that you all have been waiting for: my top 10 worst films of 2016. Of course being the Terrible Australian, it was my official duty to write some kind of article up about some of the awful films that came out last year. While I did see a lot of really bad or terrible films in 2016 but in my honest opinion, these 10 that I’ve chosen for this list are in my honest opinion the ABSOLUTE worst that I saw from that year

These are the ones that I hate with a passion and the mere mention of them just makes me what to groan over how utterly terrible they all were. What I think you all will find interested this list is that it’s a mixture of ones that you have heard of, others you may have had no idea they even existed and others you would actually been surprised to see on there. Now before I go into my final official top worst 10 of 2016, here’s another list of films that which surprisingly didn’t make it on there but were my dishonourable mentions for the year. Enjoy!

NOTE: I’ve only included films that were officially released in cinemas in either Australia, the U.K. or the U.S. in 2016 (however some films that I saw at film festivals this year won’t be included if they hadn’t had a theatrical release in either of those three countries yet).

…And now onto my official top 10 worst films of 2016…

10. OUR KIND OF TRAITOR

(Dir: Susanna White)

our-kind-of-traitor-1-ewan-mcgregor-and-naomie-harris

“While there has been many strong film adaptations of author John le Carré’s novels in the past, unfortunately this latest big screen adaptation of his work was an absolutely clichéd and visually ugly borefest. The great cast that they assembled for this film were completely wasted.”

9. ALLEGIANT

(Dir: Robert Schwentke)

tttttttttttt

While the first two films in the DIVERGENT series were watchable if rather forgettable teen oriented sci-fi films but after watching this third instalment in the series, I can see why they decided not to make any more in the series. This was such excruciating dull sequel that I don’t care about anything that was going on in it.”

8. CELL

(Dir: Tod Williams)

post5

“I must admit that while there are some pretty interesting ideas that touched upon in this big screen adaptation of Stephen King’s novel, sadly the overall film itself is frustratingly clichéd, boring and badly made zombie film that becomes a complete awful mess as it goes along.”

7. NINE LIVES (a.k.a. MR. FUZZYPANTS)

(Dir: Barry Sonnenfeld)

“I don’t know how this incredibly dumb, clichéd, unfunny and poorly put together family comedy managed to make it to the big screen but somehow it did. The talent cast is all completely wasted and you can definitely tell by watching them in this awful film that they all seriously don’t want to be there.”

6. SAUSAGE PARTY

(Dir: Conrad Vernon & Greg Tiernan)

3106658-sausage

“This adults only animated film had a lot of potential to be a really hilarious but sadly it’s a completely unfunny 5 minute sketch idea stretched out to 90 minutes.. It’s poorly animated, dumb, juvenile, obnoxious and it’s not as smart nor a deep as it thinks it is.”

5. CABIN FEVER (2016)

(Dir: Travis Zariwny)

960

“I don’t know whose idea it was to remake director Eli Roth’s 2003 debut horror film but they deserve a good punch in the face. The fact that they shot this film again with the exact same script of the original is just beyond lazy. The end result is a bland,  boring and pointless film that didn’t need to be made.”

4. UNDERWORLD: BLOOD WARS

(Dir: Anna Foerster)

‘”While the UNDERWORLD series started off as an okay if enjoyable action/horror film but as the franchise went on, each entry started to become worse and worse. This latest sequel was a completely nonsensical and frustratingly dull film that doesn’t provide any fun at all. It’s the worst film in the series so far.”

3. DAVID BRENT: LIFE ON THE ROAD

(Dir: Ricky Gervais)

36c58ccf00000578-0-image-a-2_1470047802161

“I know that a lot of fans of  the British version of the T.V. show of THE OFFICE might find some laughs with this film but for me personally, Ricky Gervais’s big screen debut of his famous character was an absolutely obnoxious and unfunny comedy that I found completely irritating from beginning to end. It was terrible.”

2. HILLARY’S AMERICA: THE SECRET HISTORY OF THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY

(Dir: Dinesh D’Souza & Bruce Schooley)

960-1

“To call this film a documentary would be an complete insult to the documentary genre itself. This doco is nothing more than an idiotic, hypocritical and factually incorrect right-wing propaganda piece that was only created to just smear both Hillary Clinton and the U.S. Democratic party’s names. It’s a wretched piece of garbage.”

1. BOO! A MADEA HALLOWEEN

(Dir: Tyler Perry )

boo-madea-halloween

“You know what’s funny? I was actually looking forward to checking this film out. While all the previous films in actor/director Tyler Perry’s MADEA series have been pretty bad, I was actually curious about this one ’cause it had potential to be the ERNEST SCARED STUPID of the franchise based on both its premise and marketing. As you can guess, I was absolutely wrong. It was lazy, boring, obnoxious, terrible made, badly acted and even offensive piece of crap that’s not only the absolute worst film in the series, it’s without a single doubt *the* worst film that was released in 2016. It was a complete abomination from star. I hated it so, so, so, SO much!”

Well, there you have it. Those are my official top 10 worst films of 2016. Agree or disagree? Let your voices be heard in the comments below or on the official SuperMarcey.com Facebook page!
