IT IS NOT THAT BAD, GUYS!
Whether or not you are willing to go with what you see is another matter, but truth be told, this is not the travesty so many people have proclaimed it to be. Although it is hardly a masterclass in meta, there is definitely a loving sense of tongue-in-cheek fun to this movie. Does it do anything new other than present ANOTHER alternate timeline and take on the principal characters? No, which is unfortunate since the opportunities are ripe for the taking in the story. Is it awe-inspiring? Not terribly. Does it make sense? That’s a nebulous concept at best. Is it fun? Oh yes. Does it know what it is? Oh, for sure! This is certainly one of those cases of which this is something you need to watch for yourself. Listen to nobody, go in with a blank slate of a mind; don’t turn it off, just open it up. You may be surprised.
By the way, I only recently realised the way the film treats time travel is very similar to how the Back To The Future series did. Nice.
