Two Days is a romantic/comedy/drama, and an unexpected one. Heading into this film, I felt a little unsure of what sort of film it was going to be. The first act reveals a few hints, but it is during its middle act where it’s true colours are really shown, and I was delighted by what … Continue reading
An absolutely wonderful event is taking place around the country, and that is the Russian Resurrection Film Festival 2012. Australia is very fortunate to be showcasing some wonderful Russian films, and now is your chance to get your dose of films. Continue reading

Merantau was the first film in many years produced in Indonesia and it brought forth their martial arts Pencat Silat. That is a key component in this film, and I think after seeing this film many people will certainly want to know more (seek out Gareth Evan’s documentary Pencat Silat: The Martial Arts of Indonesia for more). The story here is about the ancient rite of passage known as ‘merantau’, which is from native Sumatra. Continue reading

Dir: Aharon Keshales, Navot Papushado Starring: Lior Ashkenazi, Danny Geva, Ania Bukstein The Film: Rabies (Kalevet) was a film I had heard about some time ago, it was being billed as the first Israeli slasher film. This certainly got my attention, and I wondered whether I would get to see it and how it would … Continue reading

Dir: Henry Olek Starring: Ross McCall, Susan Priver, Jude Ciccolella The Film: The Guest Room (aka Serving Up Richard) is an odd gem of a film, and it is surprisingly engaging despite being labelled as a cannibal film. Now I have nothing against cannibal sub-genre films, this element worked well for Hannibal Lector for example, … Continue reading

Dir: Mitch Glazer Starring: Mickey Rourke, Megan Fox, Bill Murray, Rhys Ifans, Kelly Lynch The Film: Passion Play has a bit of a reputation behind it, it was panned by critics when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival back in 2010 and it hasn’t quite recovered since. It has that reputation of being … Continue reading
![[MIFF ’12] Maniac (2012)](https://supermarcey.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/maniac-1-featured.jpg?w=160&h=120&crop=1 "[MIFF ’12] Maniac (2012)")
My first thought after I was walking out of the screening was ‘scalping has never looked so artistic’. This ‘remake’ of Maniac certainly draws some of its inspiration from European arthouse horror, it really has that giallo vibe. It also draws inspiration from 70’s and 80’s exploitation, yet it aims to be more than just exploitation. Continue reading

Dir: Ti West Starring: Sara Paxton, Pat Healy, Kelly McGillis The Film: I just want to get this out of the way now – I love Ti West! He really is a fantastic recent addition to the horror genre, he keeps things interesting and inventive. The Innkeepers which is his latest is no different, this … Continue reading

Cosmopolis is a film that has been dividing audiences since its debut at Cannes, and it will continue to do so. I am a huge fan of director David Cronenberg, he rarely disappoints and last year he gave me a big disappointment with A Dangerous Method. Continue reading

Without a doubt Bernie is one of the strangest films I have seen for the past few years. It really is an odd film, fact mixed with fiction, and strangely alluring. Continue reading

I admit from the moment I first saw the trailer for The Campaign, I got excited! The trailer showed just enough to give us an idea of what we were in for and the talents involved, I was sold! Continue reading
