[Wrestling] Smackdown Live 02/08/2016 Review

The show begins with Shane, Daniel and Randy watching the events of Raw, with the RKO outtanowhere on Brock Lesner. There is security everywhere, they are expecting Brock Lesnar may show up. The Miz shows up to complain, Daniel states there will be a Triple Threat Contenders match for his IC Title, Daniel Bryan accidentally calls Apollo Crews … Apollo Creed. Dean Ambrose then shows up and states he is going to address the number 1 contender.

Dean Ambrose Opens The Show

Dean Ambrose addresses the new era and the new number one contender in Dolph Ziggler, which prompts the man himself to come out. Ambrose talks about how hard he has worked to get to the top, and that Ziggler is all talk. Ziggler actually brings up how he started with The Spirit Squad, compared to Ambrose who started with The Shield. Ambrose talks about proving people wrong, and that Ziggler cares too much about his image, what everyone thinks about him. He says he should be thinking about winning, but he’s going to lose against him. Ziggler fights back aggressively with his words, he’s fired up and says ‘He’s That Damn Good’. They stare each other down, and I am loving where this is going. The perfect way to begin a feud for the WWE Title, and Deam Ambrose is proving that he can be the top guy for Smackdown, and Ziggler is in a great position to step up.

Bray Wyatt shows up and takes out Dolph Ziggler with Sister Abigail. Bray tells him he doesn’t deserve to even call himself a Champion, he asks the crowd if they think he could be their new WWE Champion. Bray says he stole something from him, and he wants it back. He challenges him to a match, and if he wins, he will prove he is worthy of being the number 1 contender. If he falls, Bray will then take his place at Summerslam.

Later tonight AJ Styles has a message for John Cena. American Alpha debuts as well. Up next the Triple Threat Match for the contendership for the IC Title. Backstage Dolph approaches Shane and Daniel about what just happens, he says he wants the match. He wants to prove that he deserves it, match made.

Triple Threat IC Title Contenders Match: Kalisto vs. Baron Corbin vs. Apollo Crews

Off the bat Kalitso and Crews team up to take out Baron Corbin and they fight each other, but Corbin gets back in. Kalisto takes him out and off to an ad break. Interesting that these three have been picked, three NXT guys and definitely trying to live up to this new era vibe and giving the newer guys a chance. Lots of action after the break, and I am really digging it. Crews has improved a lot in the ring already, and Corbin isn’t looking too bad either. Kalisto is just a little powerhouse and always great to watch. Quick ending with Apollo getting a roll up victory on Kalisto, Corbin attacks Kalisto and Crews comes to help. The Miz steps in and takes out Crews, then Corbin takes out The Miz. I liked that, sets up a lot of potential feuds.

Up next Becky Lynch will take on Eva Marie …. NOOOOOOOOO!

Becky Lynch vs. Eva Marie

Becky has the potential to be the face of the Smackdown Women’s Division along with Natalya, and unfortunately I like Eva Marie’s egotastic entrance. It really makes you dislike her so much more, and she is finally embracing the hate she gets by just going with it. Still not a fan, but at least we have progress right. Eva Marie says she has an injury and the match gets called off, she’s smiling through it. Becky Lynch remains in the ring, and gets cheered for. What was that?

Rating: 1/5 – solely because I saw Becky

Backstage Renee Young is talking with Carmella, and Natalya shows up asking why she isn’t getting interviewed. The two get into it and a match is made for later.

The Vaudevillians vs. American Alpha

Pretty cool reaction for American Alpha, and no one deserves this spot more than these guys. Amazing talents and hard workers, so happy to see them make their main roster debut. An exciting match from the get go, these are four talented guys. American Alpha both get into things and certainly get the crowd worked up. Doesn’t take long for the Vaudevillians to get the upper hand, and make us wait for that awesome hot tag. We get an amazing series of suplexes and the action is fun and how can anyone not love these guys? A short match but American Alpha have made their mark. We need Smackdown Tag Team Titles for these guys!

Rating: 3.5/5

AJ Styles up next.

Footage of John Cena co-hosting The Teen Choice Awards, and The Bella Twins winning an award on the show.

AJ Styles And John Cena

Before AJ Styles can really get out an entire sentence, John Cena comes out. AJ Styles says he could do his favourite thing ‘Beat Up John Cena’ but he actually has a message for the Cenation. The crowd is chanting ‘soccer Mom hair’, AJ’s facial expression is hilarious. AJ says he doesn’t want John Cena there, that people think he’s some noble hero but he isn’t. He insults the crowd, as a heel does, he calls the little kids stupid idiots. Then he says their parents are delusional, and that John Cena is just as bad. John Cena fights back with some lame words, surely you can do better Cena? The crowd goes nuts with ‘Lets Go Cena, Cena Sucks’. AJ Styles says he is going to prove Cenation wrong, that Cena is a fraud. He asks Cena why he is still there, and Cena says he will shut his mouth. I enjoy the back and forth these two are having, and Cena certainly has a fire lit under him with Styles. Cena actually feels passionate with his promo’s and AJ just knows exactly how to answer back, and I cannot wait to see them face off at Summerslam. AJ does lay down that challenge, Cena accepts.

Fandango vs. Randy Orton

Security are all over the place, and just seeing who he is against, well this wont last long. Apparently Fandango wanted the match after Orton talked trash about him last week. The crowd are chanting RKO, I love that. Orton just beats on Fandango, and Tyler Breeze even tries to get involved but gets knocked out. The crowd are going absolutely insane for an RKO, but Brock Lesner shows up in the crowd. Orton hits the RKO on Fandango and then Lesner hits the ring and hits the F-5 on Orton. Security surround the ring, Shane is barking orders. Best way they can build this feud with the guys being on different rosters.

Rating: 3/5

During the commercial Brock Lesner leaves the building. Heath Slater makes it backstage to confront Daniel Bryan, Daniel Bryan says he can have a match next week and if he wins he gets a contract. Rhyno gores him backstage, and Daniel Bryan says well that the opponent.

Backstage with Renee Young and Dean Ambrose, who gets asked about Ziggler’s match with Bray Wyatt. Ambrose talks about Ziggler self destructing, and that is it a matter of time before that happens.

Orton gets approached to talk about what happened but he walks off.

Carmella vs. Natalya

During her entrance Natalya attacks Carmella, she puts her in the sharpshooter at ringside. Carmella screams and taps to be let out. No match, what are you doing with this booking Smackdown? No non Women’s matches … urgh

Rating: 0/5

Shane and Daniel try to talk Dolph out of the match, he simply tells them “screw you” and walks off.

Dolph Ziggler vs. Bray Wyatt

Dean Ambrose is at ringside of course, as Dolph Ziggler goes straight to it and hits the Famouser. Bray takes him out with a clothelines on the outside, looked like he was going to take his head off. Intensity from both men too, which I like it helps sell how serious this match is. Ambrose talks about how he hopes his words will help Ziggler, they talk about whether will we see a new Ziggler. After commercial it looks like Bray has the upper hand and he delivers a superplex from the top rope. I like the banter between Otunga, Mauro and Ambrose, JBL just felt so out of place calling Ziggler an idiot and not adding anything else in.

The two have some good back and forth action, a great ZigZag hit from out of nowhere and a very near fall happens. Ziggler gets frustrated and takes off the top turnbuckle pad, which is what Bray Wyatt was trying to do. Bray nearly hits sister Abigail, Ziggler counters. Bray hits a big move, with another near fall, the match gets extremely intense and I like the booking. The crowd are into the match and chanting for both guys. Bray ends up eating that turnbuckle and then gets hit with a superkick. Ziggler gets the pin fall after that, proving perhaps he deserves his contendership. Smart move to have Ziggler get a win over Bray, Bray I don’t think loses anything from it either. Love the brewing feud between Ziggler and Ambrose over the title. Out of nowhere Erick Rowan attacks Ziggler, Ambrose then gets involved. Wyatt and Rowan lay them both out, follow the buzzards.

Rating: 4/5

Definitely a step up from last week, but the show does not quite feel as must see as it should. I am hoping in the coming weeks we get a Smackdown Women’s Title and Smackdown Tag Team Titles. They are going in the right direction, and I am more inclined to tune in each week now.
