Bede’s Top 10 Worst Films Of 2014

A week ago here on SuperMarcey.com, I wrote up a list of my top 10 best films of 2014 (which you can read here). Also in that same article I promised that I would be posting another top 10 list very soon, this time on the worst films I saw in 2014. Just like my best of 2014 list, I would’ve had this list out much earlier but I also needed extra time to catch up on some bad films that missed out from seeing in 2014. Why you ask? Just to see if some of them were *worthy* of being on it. Now here it is, the list that you all have been waiting for: my top 10 worst films of 2014. While there were a lot of great films from last year, there some equally bad ones as well. Of course living up to my reputation as being the Terrible Australian, I did check out most of the awful films that were released in cinemas last year. My list contains 10 films that, in my honest opinion, are the ABSOLUTE worst that I did see in 2014.

These are the ones that REALLY grinded my gears and I absolutely hated every single one of them with a passion. What I think you all will find interested this list is that its a mixture of ones that you have heard of, others you may have had no idea they even existed and others you would actually been surprised to see on there. Now before I go into my final official top worst 10 of 2014, here’s another list of films that which surprisingly didn’t make it on there but were my dishonourable mentions for the year. Plus I have a special award dedicated to a film I consider the best worst film of 2013. Enjoy!

NOTE: I’ve only included films that were officially released in cinemas in either Australia, the U.K. or the U.S. in 2014 (however some films that I saw at film festivals this year won’t be included if they hadn’t had a theatrical release in either of those three countries yet).

SPECIAL AWARD: THE BEST WORST FILM OF 2014:

THE IDENTICAL

(Dir: Dustin Marcellino)

the-identical-picture01

” Oh, man. This movie. Seriously, this movie. It’s just… Wow. This may be one of the most bizarre and bewildering films I have seen in a very, and I mean VERY long time. I honestly don’t know what to make of it. Seriously, It has to be seen to be believed. I think that we may have a new TROLL 2 or THE ROOM on our hands.”

…And now onto my official top 10 worst films of 2014…

10. EXODUS: GODS AND KINGS

(Dir: Ridley Scott)

exodus-gods-kings-cast

“While I admit there a couple of interesting elements to it, unfortunately Ridley Scott’s take on the biblical story of Moses is incredibly dull, lifeless, badly miscast and lacks any sense of awe or wonder. This is the worst film that Scott has done in a very long time. It’s truly terrible.”

9. THE JUDGE

(Dir: David Dobkin)

“There was potential there for it to be a good film, but it’s so poorly handled in every way that it ends up being a tonally confused mess.  To me it felt like that it was manufactured by the studio so that it could be an Oscar contender, instead it completely fails in every way. It’s a truly awful film.”

8. GRACE OF MONACO

(Dir: Olivier Dahan)

grace-of-monaco-img01

“As much as I love Nicole Kidman as an actress, but  sadly it really pains to say that she was pretty awful in this biopic on Grace Kelly. The film itself is just as equally terrible too. It’s campy, melodramatic, boring, pretentious, unfocused and poorly made. It’s a complete misfire.”

7. THE BEST OF ME

(Dir: Michael Hoffman)

m_035_04948rv2

“I’ve shamefully seen a lot of mediocre big screen adaptations of Nicholas Sparks’ novels, but this film is the absolute worst one of the lot. An absolutely terrible romantic drama that’s gets more cheesy, cartoonish and ridiculous as it goes along. Plus this has of the worst endings I’ve seen in a film in 2014.”

6. MRS. BROWN’S BOYS D’MOVIE

(Dir: Ben Kellett)

mbb2

“I’ve never seen the original TV show that this film is a spinoff from, and honestly I have no intentions of ever checking it out now. This is without a doubt the worst comedy I’ve seen at the seen the cinema all year. Its completely un-funny and borderline offensive piece of crap.”

5. ADDICTED

(Dir: Billie Woodruff)

01-19-57-01-1200x648

“This terrible film tries its damn hardest to be a sexy erotic thriller, but its neither sexy, erotic nor thrilling in anyway at all. But you know what’s worse? It also tries to pass itself off a *serious* examination of sex addiction that it becomes completely stupid and laughable.”

4. LEPRECHAUN: ORIGINS

(Dir: Zach Lipovsky)

Leprechaun Origins Film 2014

“You know what? I’m not against the idea of a full on scary take on LEPRECAUN, but this reboot of the franchise just doesn’t work. It’s a un-scary, boring, humourless and terribly made horror film that’s completely pointless in everyway. Avoid at all costs.”

3. JIMI: ALL IS BY MY SIDE

(Dir: John Ridley)

720x405-aib_8_06116

“The cast try their best, but sadly they can’t save this extremely dull, self-indulgent and poorly made biopic about Jimi Hendrix’s rise to stardom. This film felt like it was made by a third-rate, first year pretentious amateur film student. Yeah, it was that terrible.”

2. FLY ME TO THE MOON (a.k.a. A PERFECT PLAN)

(Dir: Pascal Chaumeil)

un-plan-parfait01-600x399

” Diane Krueger is a wonderful actress, so she deserves better than this absolutely terrible, obnoxious and truly cringe-worthy French romantic/comedy. This film somehow makes even some of the worst romantic/comedies coming out of Hollywood over the last few years look great by comparison.”

1. TURKEY SHOOT

(Dir: Jon Hewitt)

“This remake of the cult 80’s Aussie exploitation film is without a doubt single handily the worst film I saw in 2014. It’s badly acted, terribly made, cheap, lazy, too serious and worse of all: boring. How this piece of crap got an actual cinemas release I’ll never know. It’s a film that should have belonged at the bottom at a $5 DVD bargain bin in a supermarket than a cinema screen. It’s an abomination!”

Well, there you have it. Those are my official top 10 worst films of 2014. Agree or disagree? Let your voices be heard in the comments below or on the official SuperMarcey.com Facebook page!
