[31 Days Of Horror] Mini Review – Sisters (1973)

SISTERS (1973)

I have always been a Brian De Palma fan, some of his films are better than others, and then there are ones that should be forgotten about. Whole browsing a website that had some film titles, I came across Sisters, and I was surprised to see his name down. I hadn’t heard of this film, and it was one of the earlier ones from him. Having a really cool looking poster and starring Margot Kidder, I figured this could be a neat entry for 31 Days Of Horror.

The film is De Palma doing his own Hitchcock; it is a mixture of Psycho and Rear Window for the most part. It has De Palma’s own flavour too, and together it formed a very entertaining film. It tells the tale of a woman called Danielle, who as it turns out was a conjoined twin. Something seems a little bit off about the whole situation, and when a murder occurs in her house, something is really off. The murder gets witnessed by her neighbour, who begins an investigation to under cover what is actually going on.

It is interesting, and the whole conjoined twin aspect was a nice touch. The idea of a good twin and an evil twin is nothing new, but it was handled so well in this case. With a strong script and cast the film delivered the goods, with unique takes on situations. It had a lot to say and the mystery within it was well kept. Worth checking out, this was a fantastic surprise.
