[31 Days Of Horror] Mini Review – Killer Klowns From Outer Space (1988)

KILLER KLOWNS FROM OUTER SPACE (1988)

Firstly … why the heck did I wait so long to see this film? Secondly … why the heck did I wait so long to see this film? Now that that is out of the way, Killer Klowns From Outer Space is awesome good fun!

Oh yes, it is a silly and as fun as it sounds, I mean with a title like that it can’t be bad? Well in the Awfully Good sense oh yes! If you want a serious alien invasion type film, look somewhere else! How seriously can you take alien Killer Klowns anyway?

This B-grade movie madness comes from the Chiodo brothers who knew exactly what they wanted to make and delivered on it. Taking cues from the creature feature classics and low budget alien films of the 50’s, the film is as much homage as it is a spoof of sorts.

The story as it goes, a UFO lands just outside a small town, where the aliens inside want to harvest humans for food, and they just happen to look like clowns. Promise I didn’t smoke anything, that is the premise, and you’d think something like that would turn out horrible. But actually it’s awesome; it is over the top, cheesy, hammy, fun, hilarious and all the rest. While others strive to create something like this and end up with a huge mess, these guys made it!

The make-up and FX in this film are amazing, like I have no idea how they did it but hot damn it looks so realistic. With a budget of around $2 million, these guys sure knew how to use it all wisely. I mean it mostly still holds up today, so what does that tell ya?

Don’t take it too seriously and enjoy the heck out of this film! You can read my full review over at MoreHorror.
