Unless you’ve been living under a rock lately, I am sure you’ve heard about The Hunger Games. The books are being read by just about everyone and the inevitable film adaptation has been made. But is it any good? In one word … YES! Now I haven’t read the book by Suzanne Collins, the first … Continue reading
Dir: Athina Rachel Tsangari Starring: Ariane Labed, Vangelis Mourikis, Evangelia Randou, Giorgos Lanthimus The Film: Even though the films are quite different, I can’t help but refer to Dogtooth with this review. The producer of that film wrote and directed this one with Giorgos Lanthimos (Dogtooth director) producing and acting in this one. The films … Continue reading

Absent (Ausente) is a film that kind of lives up to its title on the surface but when one digs deeper, it is anything but. I have to say I found this Argentinean effort to be quite interesting and it took me off guard. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from it, and the … Continue reading

Ballroom Rules is an Australian documentary about same-sex ballroom dancing, and it follows several couples as they prepare and then compete at the Gay Games in Germany (2010). It is really great to see homegrown documentaries and this was such a great surprise. Ballroom dancing probably showed up on a lot of radar’s here after … Continue reading

Judging by the title of this documentary, subject matter is pretty obvious, it follows the journey of Chaz Bono (formally Chasity, the offspring of Sonny and Cher) as he makes the transition into the self he always knew he was meant to be. It is a very interesting documentary, and it certainly does not hold … Continue reading
Dir: Vitaliy Vorobiov Starring: Nikita Yefremov, Yekaterina Astakhova, Aleksandr Daydov The Film: Films about WWII are a plenty, that entire film sub-genre has many interesting films and those that aren’t so good. My interest on these films is pretty high, I find the subject fascinating and I do like to see the subject tackled from … Continue reading
The Day I Saw Your Heart is an odd little film, one of the comedy/drama and slightly quirky variety. These types of film can go either way, this one falls somewhere in the middle, not quite being able to reach greater heights but not a total failure either. The story is about a family, two … Continue reading
Dir: Campion Murphy Starring: Dominic Purcell, Faith Ford, Christine Evangelista, Scott Elrod The Film: Escapee is a film with some interesting ideas, but it is very predictable and full of typical clichés. I really wanted to like this film, but it really fell into ‘typical slasher’ territory and it did not offer anything new or … Continue reading
Every so often a film comes along and is absolutely surprising and not at all what was expected. Nobody Else But You or Poupoupidou as I prefer is that film for me, I had my expectations on what it was about and how it may unfold but it was not at all what I thought … Continue reading
Tales Of The Night is a wonderfully unique visual experience; its animation is stunning and quite stylised. I was impressed simply by the look of this film, it is wonderfully crafted from the get go. The story here is a simple one, it features three friends in a Parisian theatre who come up with stories … Continue reading
Welcome back to this weekly feature at SuperMarcey.com called ‘The Super Five’. This is a different take on the ‘Top 10’ or ‘List’ style features, where I take a subject and simply name five things. It isn’t a top list, just simply five things for your enjoyment! For this weeks list, I decided to go … Continue reading
Dir: The Pierce Brothers Starring: Michael McKiddy, Ross Kidder, Markus Taylor The Film: I love a good horror/comedy, the blend of genres is never an easy task and sometimes one needs to sit through some bad before a good one comes along. I am very happy to report that DeadHeads is one of the good … Continue reading
18 Years Old And Rising is another example of why I absolutely love French cinema; more specifically in the way it portrays young people. This is a coming of age story about a young man, and what it does right is give us a real character. He isn’t a character who is wise beyond his … Continue reading
