[31 Days Of Horror] Mini Review – Pieces (1982)

PIECES (1982)

Grindhouse/exploitation slasher tries to do giallo, which is one way to describe Pieces. The film I discovered after watching Going To Pieces: The Rise And Fall Of The Slasher Film is a neat little gem from that era. It isn’t perfect by any means but it is a solid watch. It is nasty; it delivers on those things you want out of a piece like this. Blood, boobs, kills, hilarious acting and all the rest. Certainly this is one of the better exploitation films I have seen more recently, it aimed to be better than just a cheap forgettable film, and it kind of is. It is a mix of good, bad and in between and certainly worth seeking out if you big the genre.

If you are new to exploitation/grindhouse, this is a decent way to start. If you like bloody and mean kills, this has those in spades. But don’t expect a mystery, the killer is obvious and the people placed in there to trick you wont fool anyone. The opening is fantastic, and rather disturbing considering what the kid does. This gets the Marcey seal of approval.
