Starring: Miranda Hart, Tom Ellis, Sarah Hadland, Sally Phillips and Patricia Hodge
This Series
Now I haven’t seen Miranda Series 1, but the first episode of Series 2 actually explains the events so you can jump right in. The title character played by comedian Miranda Hart lives in this clumsy world where nothing ever goes according to plan.
I love British comedy, and Miranda was a great reminder of why. It is honest humour, it isn’t forced, and while the sitcom is set in a fictional world, it deals with issues and problems we all face. In the first episode Miranda tries to come to terms with Gary’s absence and the fact that her mother has decided to move in. The dilemma she then faces is the new Chef in town, he’s handsome and she fancies him. Her awkwardness actually wins him over, and she finally begins to move on when Gary returns.
I think we’re all been there, living with a parent, and trying to juggle your own life and then subsequent love life. The episode works on so many levels, it is really witty and enjoyable that it leaves you wanting more. It is quite offbeat and silly, Miranda is such a quirky character that you can’t help but completely adore her from the get go. The supporting cast of characters are just as much fun, and Gary is extremely charming.
The other real stand out episode is Before I Die, where Miranda’s good intentions backfire. It actually made me think about my own good intentions, and attempts to help people, and that sometimes life just doesn’t go according to plan. The situations here are handled in such a humorous way, but it doesn’t take away from the very real problems. It actually sends out that vibe that you can laugh at things, not everything has to be serious.
If you haven’t had a chance to get into this show you must, it is one of the better comedies I have come across lately. All of the episodes from this Series are fantastic, it manages to deliver each time, without a dull moment. There is a lot to enjoy, and the appeal isn’t just for specific people, but something that is suited for everyone.
Miranda is one of those gems, you feel silly for not having discovered it sooner but thankful that you get to enjoy it for the first time. Give this one a chance, I assure you, no regrets! Welcome Miranda into your life, you probably wont feel so bad about yourself!
