The Golden Bat

3.5/5
It is pretty much impossible for me to write a serious review of this awfully silly film. I wouldn’t have even heard of this if it wasn’t for one of my frequent podcasting guests the terrible Australian Bede. Bede was nice enough to send this film out to me, claiming it needed to be seen as it is one of his all time guilty pleasure films.
The Golden Bat, what exactly is it about you might ask? A golden bat, what sort of bat? A baseball bat which is the imagine that came to mind first, alas no not a gold baseball bat. An actual bat, like the animal, made of foil who turns into a big bat looking person who is actually a superhero.
He resembles Skeletor dressed up as Liberace.

What is this film about? Well … that is a good one! It is a sci-fi film of sorts, Icarus (A planet) is going to collide with Earth and only this teenage boy seems to know it. Until he comes across this strange scientific collective who know about it and need to stop it. But there are evil badies who want it to happen and they want to steal the super-destruction beam before it can be used to destroy Icarus. Enter the Golden Bat who is given the lens which without it the beam can’t be used. Yes it is all a mess but a rather hilarious mess at that. This is a film you really need to see to actually believe something like this actually exists. I was entertained by this mess, and that is all that really matters. Oh and it stars Sonny Chiba!
